How to Read a Welcome Bonus Before You Claim It

Start with wagering requirements

The most important number in any welcome bonus is the wagering requirement. This tells you how many times you must play through the bonus amount before you can withdraw any winnings. For example, a 30x requirement on a RM200 bonus means you need to place RM6,000 in bets. Lower numbers are better, and anything above 40x becomes difficult to clear.

Check whether the requirement applies only to the bonus or to the bonus plus your deposit. Some offers state “deposit + bonus” which doubles the amount you must wager. Compare this figure across different promotions to see which one gives you a realistic chance of converting the bonus into cash. Always calculate the total turnover needed before you commit.

Check game contribution percentages

Not every game contributes equally to meeting the wagering requirement. Slots usually count 100%, but table games like blackjack or roulette may contribute only 10% or even zero. If you prefer table games, a bonus that excludes them or gives low contribution will be very hard to clear. Look for the list of eligible games in the terms.

Some platforms also limit which slot titles qualify. Progressive jackpots or certain high-RTP slots may be excluded entirely. If your favourite game is not listed, the bonus may not suit you. Always match the bonus to the games you actually play, otherwise you risk wasting time on titles you do not enjoy.

Find the maximum bet limit

Most welcome bonuses cap the maximum bet you can place while the bonus is active. A common limit is RM30 per spin or per hand. If you exceed this, even once, the site may void your bonus and confiscate any winnings. This rule exists to prevent players from clearing requirements quickly with large bets, so you must stay within the limit throughout.

Check if the limit applies per round or per bet. Some terms include both a per-spin limit and a per-round limit for table games. If you usually bet higher amounts, look for a bonus with a higher cap. Ignoring this rule is one of the most common reasons players lose their bonus balance, so read it carefully.

Understand the expiry date

Every welcome bonus has an expiry period, usually between 7 and 30 days from the date you claim it. If you do not meet the wagering requirement within that time, the bonus and any winnings are removed from your account. A shorter expiry means you need to play more frequently. Choose a bonus with a timeframe that matches your playing schedule.

Some offers also expire the free spins portion separately from the deposit match. For instance, free spins may last only 72 hours while the main bonus lasts two weeks. Mark the deadlines on your calendar or set a reminder. Missing an expiry date is a waste of the deposit you made, so treat the timeframe as seriously as the wagering requirement.

Review deposit and withdrawal rules

Before claiming a bonus, confirm which payment methods qualify. In Malaysia, e-wallets like Touch 'n Go and bank transfers are common, but some bonuses exclude certain methods. If your preferred e-wallet is not listed, you may not receive the bonus even if you deposit. Always check the list of eligible deposit options in the terms.

Withdrawal conditions also matter. Some bonuses require you to complete the wagering before you can withdraw any amount, even your own deposit. Others allow you to withdraw your deposit first, but that forfeits the bonus. Read the section on “withdrawal restrictions” to understand how the site handles your funds. Knowing this prevents surprises when you request a cashout.
